Slowing Down

After a series of disappointing paintings, I need to slow down.

I find myself wanting to get paint on the canvas as quickly as possible. Rushing like this almost always ends up with an intial mess that I have to dig myself out of.

There are a few things that seem to cause this:

• I have difficulty determining what color to mix.
• I have difficulty determining what stroke to use.
• I have difficulty getting my hands to do what my brain comes up with.

I find that when 1 (or more) of the 3 above things happen, I get frustrated, feel like time is ticking, and end up grabbing some paint and throwing it on the canvas.

Slow down.
